Introduction
This document describes features of a dataset. It has three main sections: definition of common attributes for all features, definition of features and attributes, and domains of permissible values for specific attributes. Each section starts with an explanation of the content and conventions used in the section. Finally, a correlation tables for various distribution formats is presented at the end of the document.
This feature catalogue provides additional information on the data for the dataset, available in both French and English versions. In both language version of the catalogue, the feature and attribute names are provided in both languages.
Attribute names are expressed using natural wording, according to the language of the catalogue, however the implementation name is always in English. For example, “Centrale électrique” and “Power Plant” will be displayed in the French and English catalogues respectively, however the implementation name will be in English as “power_plant_0”. In the majority of cases, the attribute name will be similar to the implementation name.
In the tables that describe features and attributes, map scales are provided in their abbreviated form, e.g. 250K for 1:250 000, 1M for 1:1 000 000, 5M for 1:5 000 000, etc…
It should be noted that some attributes have a domain of allowed values which makes it possible to limit the possible values for the attribute. These attributes always contain numeric values to which a designation is associated. For reasons of user-friendliness, each of these attributes having a domain of permitted values has been triplicated to provide the user with the English or French designations in addition to the numerical value. In order not to weigh down the catalog of entities, it was decided not to list these attributes "*-English" and "*-French". For example, only the "Map Selection" attribute is listed in the Common Attributes and only the "Principal Energy Source" attribute is listed in the "Power Plant" entity.
In this document, hyperlinks are identified by the same font style generally used for web pages.
Common Attribute Definitions
Common attributes are defined only once and usually exist in all features. Those attributes that exist in all features are preceded by an asterisk “*”. For example, the attribute “*GDB Identifier” is present in every feature while “Map Selection” is missing in some.
In the following table, each attribute is completely defined by two rows. Each new attribute begins with an orange row that contains the attribute name in the catalogue’s language, its translation in the other official language between parenthesis, and the data type. The second row, displays the attribute’s definition, a link to the distribution information, and the scales in which it is available.
Some attributes have a domain of permissible values. The data type of these attributes has a hyperlink to the section “Domains of Permissible Values.
Attributes listed below are organized alphabetically.

Features and Their Attribute Definitions
Features along with its attributes are displayed in separate tables, both listed in alphabetical order.
The first row of the table, in blue, displays the feature name, its translation in the other official language between parenthesis, and its status (Active or Inactive). A feature that is inactive means that it is deprecated and will not be maintained. The second row, under the feature name, displays the feature definition, link to its distribution information and or displaying information on the web site. The right section of the second row, lists the scales at which it is present and its corresponding geometry representation (P for Point, L for Line, S for Polygon, X for No geometry).
Subsequent rows in the table define the feature’s attributes, where each attribute is completely defined in two rows. Each new attribute begins with an orange row that contains the attribute name in the catalogue’s language, its translation in the other official language between parenthesis, and the data type. The second row, displays the attribute’s definition, a link to the distribution information, and the scales in which it is available. Some attributes have a domain of permissible values; therefore, the data type contains a hyperlink to its permissible value.
Each entity and each attribute contains a hyperlink to the Overview Distribution Formats.

Domains and Permissible Values
Domains along with its permissible values are displayed in separate tables, listed in alphabetical order.
The first row of each table, in green, displays the domain name and its translation in the other official language between parenthesises. The second row is a header row for all subsequent rows that lists domain values, always as integer values, followed by its English and French designation, and the definition of the value. For example, for the “Principal Energy Source” domain, its permissible values are “20, 1325, 1326, etc”. Value “20” means “Not Identified (or “Non identifié” in French), and its definition is “Unknown, not listed, not applicable or impossible to determine”.

Correlation Tables
Features and their attributes are distributed in four data formats: ESRI Geodatabase (FGDB), ESRI shape files (SHAPE), OGC GeoPackage, and web services.
A correlation table is used for each distributed format where features are indicated in blue and attributes in orange. Attributes whose values correspond to a domain have a hyperlink on their data type to their permissible values. Those attributes that are not distributed due to format constraints, in the columns “Name…” and “Data Type”, is added a reference to a footnote. For example, for the attribute “GDB Identifier”, columns “Name in FGDB File” and “Data type” contain “gdb_identifier1” and “Text(64)1” respectively.
In the dataset, attributes with a domain of values are triplicated to explicitly provide the corresponding English and French designations. These attributes therefore have the suffixes "_en" and "_fr". For example, for the "principal_energy_source" attribute, the "principal_energy_source_fr" and "principal_energy_source_en" attributes are also provided. Although in the tables below, these attributes are not listed, you can assume that they will be provided in the datasets. In the case of FGDB files, the designations have been concatenated to the numeric value of the attribute so there are no "*_en" and "*_fr" attributes. For example, the value of the "principal_energy_source" attribute will be "20: Not Identified / Not Identified". For Shape files, because of the 10-character limit for the name of an attribute, it is possible that the suffixes are only "fr" and "en". For example, the "main energy source" attribute is named "prsrcdsc" and its attributes for the French and English designations are named "prsrcdscfr" and "prsrcdscen".
Feature names have embedded a hyperlink to the complete definition in the feature table, whereas attributes do not.
The column “Name in…” lists the corresponding name of the feature and attribute that are in the dataset, and on the web site.
The column “Data Type” lists the data or field type of the attribute according to its format.
