The land cover map will be based on Landsat 7 Enhanced Thematic Mapper (ETM+) data and represent circa year 2000 conditions. Land cover will be produced through a partnership of federal, provincial, and territorial governments, universities and industry. Products generated will follow the 1:250,000 National Topographic Series Map Sheet tiles and naming convention. The land cover products are expected to be completed by early 2006. Purpose: A mosaic of Canada was generated to assist in EOSD planning and carbon accounting studies. This image mosaic of Canada consists of images from circa year 1990. The image consists of Landsat Band 7 (Red), Band 4 (Green), and Band 2 (Blue). Supplemental_Information: A mosaicked image of Canada was created using MrSID 5 x 6 degree tiles initially generated by Earthsat using circa 1990 Landsat imagery. The generation of the MRSID files was supported by a scientific data purchase program funded by NASA's Earth Science Enterprise Program (http://www.esad.ssc.nasa.gov/). To generate this product, compressed MrSID image files were uncompressed, converted to ERMapper ERS files, reprojected, mosaicked (including blending or feathering) and then saved as an ER Mapper ECW compressed file using a 25:1 compression ratio. The original uncompressed mosaic file of Canada was 85 GB. Tiled images were reprojected from a Transverse Mercator (UTM) to a Lambert Conformal Conic projection and mosaicked by the Natural Resources Canada - Canadian Forest Service. Radiometrically balancing was applied to the individual tiles. Scenes within the tiles may not be properly balanced due to different scene dates. Also note that this file is best used as a visualization tool and is not intended to be used for scientific analysis. This product was generated by the Earth Observation for Sustainable Development of Forests (EOSD) Initiative, a partnership between the Canadian Forest Service (www.nrcan.gc.ca/cfs-scf/) and the Canadian Space Agency (www.space.gc.ca/asc/index.html). ArcGIS - ArcView will lose spatial information. a) Either load a vector file and set the projection to match that specified above or preset the coordinate space for the layers to match the projection information listed above. You can also insert the following projection information in the directory you installed the ECW plugin: (eg. \Earth Resource Mapping\ArcGIS Plug-in with ECW Compressor\ER Mapper Runtime\GDT_DATA) This may or may not correct the problem but this information can be useful if you are using ER Mapper (files are also located in the ERMAPPER\GDT_DATA directory) ii.
